EASILY hoist, and stow away a square top main sail

The modern America’s Cup rule has always encouraged big roach mainsails and as materials and technology have advanced in both spars, sails and rigging, the technology started flowing into the Superyacht industry. In turn, this caused AutoLock engineers to be continually inspired in expanding their boundaries and to come up with a solution to easily hoist, and stow away a square top main sail.

Function of the main headboard car AutoLock

The Main headboard car AutoLock is the upgraded member of the AutoLock series.
AutoLocks take halyard-lock performance to the next level. Gone are the days of "missing" the lock - the Intellilock AutoLock engages automatically every time. The lock engages when the headboard car AutoLock passes a lock-wedge (shunt) during hoist. While passing the lock wedge, the trace shaped bottom of the lock wedge or shunt, activates the flippers and once the sensor’s signal indicates the headboard has passed the lock wedge (a mark on the halyard may be added as a secondary indicator), the halyard may be eased until the headboard is in locked position.

Easing the halyard and lowering the headboard into locked position is simultaneously triggering the unlocking mechanism. Although this does not seem logical, the AutoLock is already disengaged when the headboard is in locked position. When the halyard is tensioned again the flippers return to neutral position and the main sail is ready to be lowered. The way this system is designed, it will always be in “unlocked” position unless the lock engage is activated.
